Ribbons Make Everything Prettier

Nothing seems to dress up a decor idea like ribbon, the more the merrier. You can make decorating with ribbon can be simple or elaborate; just make it look fresh, even if you are using a frayed fabric ribbon for a country look.

Select a variety of containers you have on display or in your cupboards, or pull out your crystal and silver; dress them up by filling the bowls with shiny ornaments and finials. Add a ribbon tied around the foot or base of the container and you have a quick and pretty centerpiece.

Add your new creation to an entry table with a lamp; wrap a coordinating ribbon to the base of the lamp; you have added sparkle to greet your guests.

Large glass containers make great receptacles for brightly colored glass ornaments. A ribbon around the container with a sprig of greenery makes a nice centerpiece that is easy to move once the food becomes the main event on your holiday table.

You can place wrapped boxes with pretty ribbons anywhere you need a spark of color: on the floor near a large potted plant or under a glass coffee table. Look for unexpected places and you will see surprise and delight in your guests faces. Country homes look especially warm and cozy with a pile of packages wrapped in brown paper and yes, tied up with string. You can add colored string and a sprig of juniper along with a jingle bell, that way you will know if someone is snooping.

It is easy to make modern, traditional or country arrangements with containers and ornaments along with ribbon. Choose a container that suits your current decor and if it is clear adding colorful ornaments is easy. If your container is ceramic or milk glass, choose bright colors and either wire them together for stability or use earthquake clay to keep them from rolling off your container. Add ribbons on wire and stick them into your arrangement or wrap ribbon around the base.

An old staple is the cover your front door with a foil paper and wide ribbon tied in a bow, but with weather issues, you could try this idea on the inside for a change of pace, and tape your holiday cards on the door.
