Don’t Be a Norris – What Not to Wear at Work

Are you super cool, or are you just another Norris? this might not have been that burning question you where asking yourself this morning in the shower but no doubt your sat there thinking about it right now, So how do you know if you are Norris material or super cool, well I can tell you how not to be Norris, example; Norris went to work today wearing Bermuda shorts and a shirt and tie you know the type every workplace has at least one, upon arrival at work he then made himself comfortable by pulling his socks over his ears.

You get the picture, not the most popular guy in the world and not really doing himself any favours with his workwear either. Norris by nature is a fashion victim. Not his fault and I know a lot of you will be thinking “why should I dress up for work” well you do not have to its only work I guess, but before you make up your mind consider these things.

Imagine the scene, your at work wearing your dads old jeans and that jumper gran got you for Christmas, all of a sudden the girl of your dreams walks in, with a casting gaze around the room she makes eye contact, for that split second all in the world seems righteous and perfect you are alpha male, the numero uno, she looks you up and down checking out your finer points blissfully thinking to herself wow this guy lives with his parents. Well done Norris you fell at the first hurdle and landed in doggy doo.

Scene 2 you arrive at a customers house to repair a blocked toilet wearing full battle dress Norris work wear, doing your finest impression of Wurzel Gummidge “Google it” this look does not inspire confidence and worryingly your completely unaware of the negative effect this has on your business, will this customer remember you done a great job in good time or will they refer to you as the cowboy in the Christmas jumper? That is the question every company should be asking, are you portraying the right kind of image for your work?.

OK so we do not go to work to meet women or indeed men but having the foresight to envisage these things before they happen will no doubt serve you well and help in your endeavour to avoid being Norris. A well presented company can expect repeat customers time and time again. Professional embroidered workwear or smart corporate wear will go a long way in getting your company remembered by clients. Some great examples are such companies as Mcdonalds, UPS & Royal Mail. For instance why is it that you trust all Mcdonalds even though you most likely only eat in one regularly, well the simple answer is presentation, its almost as if you see the brand and assume the quality will be the same.

The fact remains that you will unknowingly associate a products with a brand without even having to think, this is what we call Branding. Now maybe you do not work for a large company maybe its just you, but you should still make the effort at projecting the correct work image. Workwear is relatively cheap nowadays and getting that added personal touch with an embroidered or printed logo is simple and long lasting.

Don’t be a Norris, do yourself proud and dress to impress no matter where you are people will always judge you on what you are wearing, this is the first point of contact before you open your mouth. Remember you only get one shot at that first impression so make it count make people remember you, your company and the work you do.
